Did you resolve the problem wit the images page keep refreshing in a non-ending loop?

That was the reason I stopped using it.
(I am using gm scripts for all OG functions)

I suggest to use AdBlock together with OG.

Thanks for the update. I like how OG removes ads inside the search results but what I liked most was that it transformed the image links from google picture search. this doesn’t work anymore it seems. Also it won’t load all search results (pics) in one continuing page as it does pretty well with the normal google web search. the picture part seems to be broken somewhat. I could guess that it’s a localization thing. I use the German Google services. Would be great to get some feedback about that, here!

Hi,

I’m from germany, so german is my mother language. If you want, I would help you for german translations, if needed??

Mail me, if you need german help! :D

Great to see Google images streaming again but for me that’s only in normal mode.

If I’m in Private Browsing mode I get three columns of images instead of six and no streaming (except once and I’ve never repeated it since).

Thanks for continuing the updating anyway.

BRAVO! With a glitch or two here and there, by and large it’s working again! “Add links to other [web, image, news, etc.] search sites” is restored and working wonderfully – my favorite feature – and I have returned to Google as my default search engine.

(As Google fights being altered, have they considered that without some of OptimizeGoogle’s features, I avoided Google completely?)

Just a heads-up guys, Google just unveiled their new look:

Unfortunately it means many things are going to need to be rewritten. :(

Click tracking is still active on Google News. Also, Google changed their search yesterday with left hand side options panel. I would not mind to have more ways to deal with said options panel

Can we have an option to revert to the old Google layout, without the left-hand sidebar, with the old search field box, and with the “pages from Australia” back under the search field where it was (it’s in the left sidebar now). I managed to get a screencap of the main page how it was, but can’t get one of the results page. http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/4936/oldgoogle1.jpg

The “add links to other web search sites” quit working. Any suggestions?

This is related to the changes Google made to their website a few days ago – we’re looking into it.

@pjdkrunkt
Interesting, I thought the new version of OG did that. ;) Because I remember about 2-3 weeks ago after installing OG and setting it to use favicons, that’s exactly the look that was shown.

In javascript.js I changed

header = document.getElementById(“center_col”).parentNode;

and

header.parentNode.insertBefore(other, header);

and to make it look a little prettier

other.setAttribute(“style”, “font-size:small;padding: 0 0 10px 10px;”);

Streaming results breaks the sidebar.

Optimize Google is hiding the “Everything”, “More” and “Show search tool” links on the left. I can get them back sometimes by refreshing the page.

I found that turning off the “Stream Search Page results” fixes the issue with the stuff on the left disappearing.

It looks like OptimizeGoogle is setting the style of the “leftnav” div (where the stuff on the left is kept) to “display:none” if streaming is on. Either that or it’s preventing Google’s scripts from removing the “display:none” from the style.

Looks like the culprit is line 183 in javascript.js. I changed:

if (n.style) n.style.display = ‘none’;

to

if (n.style && (n.id != “leftnav”)) n.style.display = ‘none’;

and the problem went away. Probably not the best way of fixing it, but it works. It would be nice if the leftnav div’s position could be made to float so that it’s visible when scrolling down the page though.

Just when you guys finally release a new version Google goes ahead and changes something. Argh!

And the changes always seem to be for the worst. This sidepanel which I rarely ever use takes up like 15% of the screen is permanently there and can’t be optionally switched off. So annoying!

I don’t know if this helps or not but if you use http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all for searches it doesn’t show the sidebar and http://www.google.com/imghp?hl=all for images it won’t show it either. Maybe you can have an option in OG to use the regular urls or these urls as way of disabling the sidebar?

I like OG but with the new look of google the links to other search sites does not work and the images are not displaying (all of them). I use FF 3.6.3 and addons: AdBlock 1.2, Better Gmail2 1.1.1, Download Helper 4.7.3,FavIcon Picker 0.6.1.14, Flashblock 1.5.13, FoxCastFox 0.9.10.2, Gmail Space 0.5.955, Microsoft NetFramework Assistant 1.2.1, Navigational Sounds 1.2.1, Norton IPS 2.0, Norton Toolbar 4.6, No Script 1.9.9.74 and OG 0.78

A lot of Add-ons I guess but I want my pc’s as secure as can be and my privacy to be just that, private.

I’ll be looking for the re write of OG to get the Google back to the way it was. Google has enough money, I don’t want to contribute to it because I ain’t getting any of it….:p

Also, when I try the URL: http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all as that was posted above, OG works. Everything works. I guess it is Google’s way (the new page) to keep people from denying them the $$ they get from the ad’s. Just my opinion/thoughts on it.

The new version of Google caught us by surprise so we’re working on getting OG adapted to the new look asap.

Here’s a the link for Google’s Classic Mode to get things back to normal… I’m not a fan of their new look… hopefully Optimize Google will update this or give us the option as well… when I use the link below it also fixes OptimizeGoogle links for other sites as well.

http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all#hl=all&source=hp&q=

Also, if you use Google in the FireFox search bar and Classic Google back… go to About:Config and under keyword.url click on Modify and replace with this… http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all#hl=all&source=hp&q=

@Jim

thx for the links:) I’m not at all fan of google’s new code. Now my stylish has three layers of codes just for google services. It will be a mess to clean/trim this out. I also hope OptimizeG will fix this google misshaps:)

Hey Jim,
Thanks for the link to make Google look like it was.
I did the modify in the about:config one keyword:url
from the address bar ok, great BUT when OG 0.78 is along with the new layout will this modify in about:config need to be changed? And I forgot to copy/paste what it was before I changed it. So if you think that modify will need to be changed, then let us know.
thanks

Suggestion for OtimizeGoogle

Would it be possible to include the function of rewriting links to
google cache, in such a way that only the httpS Text version would be
displayed?

Would it be possible to hide the new left column which google has added to search.

I believe this is just a case of setting visibility of that layer to none. I’d like to have this included in optimizegoogle so I don’t need to run another add-on that hides that as well!

Thanks guys

Thanks for working on this guys. Just wanted to check that whatever fix you come up with will be compatible with international versions of Google, specifically that we won’t lose the “pages from Australia” search when you take away the sidebar? They’ve moved it down there from where it was under the search bar, so simply disabling the left sidebar would take away that feature altogether. And is it possible to get it back on the main search page? It’s only available on the results page now.

The leftnav thing is still hidden at times when streaming is on. I found that the whole hiding of “storageContainer” nodes is completely unnecessary so I just removed the following lines and it now works fine:

var n = storageContainer;
do {
while (n.nextSibling) {
n = n.nextSibling;
//if (n.style) n.style.display = ‘none’;
}
n = n.parentNode;
} while (n);

Thanks for your debugging Morac!
We will release a patched version of 0.78 shortly to incorporate these fixes.
