Great work, thank you. I install this on all my computers.
You know, ‘accidentally’ losing the left sidebar was kinda great. Could you add such an option to OptimizeGoogle?

There is a problem with “Links to other search engines”. Is this option enabled and you open the next page of the search results the link list is shown two or more times (one time more with every new search result page you open). When you reload the page there is only one linklist left.
And I have another problem with optimizegoogle and the new wonderweel in google. If I click some topic on the wonderweel the page reloads and the last shown topics disappear. Is optimizegoogle disabled and you click on a wonderweel topic a new line with the new results appear and the old topics are allready there (no page reload). So you easy can go back on the wonderweel with disabled optimizegoogle. With enabled addon this is not possible.
I use version 0.78.1 german language (excuse me for the bad english).

I have one question concerning this add-on: is it in any way violating the Google terms of service? IOW, is it illegal?

There’s no way to turn suggestions off. Even if I turn it off in preference, suggestions are still shown

Preferred language and site stopped working overnight. Now when I type anything into the address bar, a site called http://search.conduit.com gives me query results, instead of google.com
Your program has always worked fine, so what’s going on?

Hi,
On my back to google, I saw a link at the bottom of google search page;
it says “Switch to basic version”,
the link is;
“http://www.google.ca/images?q=Ocie+Sackett&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&sout=1&biw=985&bih=621″
So I switch it and OG works fine (for now)
Peace

Seems rewriting the links to directly link to a searched image with google image search doesn’t work ATM. Using german google (the new style already release in the US isn’t here yet) :p

Would be nice, if you make https possible at the search-site… (it is possible, but then the extension doesn’t work correctly anymore…)

“Google suggest apparently does not work anymore ?”
Just unclick Google Suggest in option and it will work again. Backwards solution but works.
Google Images has tons of problems. Redirect removal does not work. It also diasable all “Old Google Images” scripts.

I really appreciate this addon! The only thing I miss: Could you intercept (i.e. “deactivate/disable”) *all* calls to google analytics (including those via SSL), and not just when browsing on Google sites? I found no way to do so, and still see communication running that way (I’m sitting behind a strange firewall which has some problems with SSL – so if a site is using GA, I get a hell of popups for failed accesses. Unfortunaltey, those are “system modal” – so it’s always a game of being able to close the tab faster than the browser pops up the next note).

Looks like google is making your job a bit harder with google instant. The url rewriting needs to be updated, perhaps?

Looking forward to an update. Seems google made quite a few changes. The image search is fugly and have to click “switch to basic version” all the time. For some reason my google results now appear in the center of my monitor instead of to the left. I also only get 10 search queries per page even though I have 20 selected in OG.

Hi, I’ve been using your extension for quite a while and just today when I attempted a google search the page loads seemed locked into some kind of loop. I either had to kill the tab or hit stop really really fast. I narrowed it down to OG by making a new ff profile, adding extensions one at a time and trying a search after each.
It’s obviously something that google is doing. Just thought I’d give you a heads up.

Google have done something with settings. Several options in OG don’t work anymore. Or maybe its update in Firefox to 3.6.10? Not sure. Anyway, unfortunately, an update of OG is now needed!
Many thanks for a useful tool!

First of all, thank you for this extension! I hope you will fix the problems in the future.
This is the first time where I am disappointed with Google. Why do they such stupid things like enrolling instant search for the masses and making it _opt-out_? It should appear turned off as default and as opt-in. Google destroys it’s good image. First Buzz and now instant search. They have to ask the users first. It’s a shame!

Sticky pref not helping with search results. Getting 10 instead of 100. Would also like to see option to make date range a sticky as well, as I don’t usually have an interest in results from 2007

Hi, great add-on! Now an option to disable the new image search and bring it back to “basic” would make things perfect. Hate that new ima…. FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU

Add on is great. Been using almost two years now. Swear by it.
Just recently the add links to other web search sites stopped working. Can’t figure a fix. Running latest version on Firefox 3.6.10

Yes MUCH needed to remove google instant. I run ccleaner to keep my browser clean, so i dump all site preferences on exit. I constantly have to go to preferences and shut it off.

Lacking the Google Instant option in the Sticky Preferences, OptimizeGoogle it now keeps resetting it to the default (i.e. ‘on’).
Of course this is a case of Google failing for creating an invasive option that’s on by default, but all the same, it is preventing me from using the otherwise awesome OptimizeGoogle.

Yes, expect some more movement towards end of this year. We just have too few people volunteering to help so it’s slow at the moment.

For a future version you should add the ability to permanently switch to older Google Images. Also, Suggest/Autocomplete now forces itself on, and Customize Search is on by default.

Hey, the OG has been working great until now. Used it since it came out. Now the “Instant” does not turn off. I disable OG 0.78.1 and I got FF 3.6.12 and when I do a change to t urn off Instant, it works. Back to the regular google search and get my 100 queries (like I got it set in the settings page on google). If I re-enable OG, my computers start like in a loop on a google query. Always refreshing the page and trying to give me 11-20 on the query but real fast going back to the 1-10 that the instant gave me and I have to X the tab. Got FF to clear cache after closing.
So did google rewrite their search trying to step over OG?
I know they want the ad dollars but I hate pop ups and flash ads running on any web page. I am the kinda person who when watching tv hit the MUTE button on the remote when a commercial comes on. I ESPECIALLY hate that red head girl on the insurance commercials on tv. So, will OG be tweaked to work with the new scripts that google has done?

Your addon is awesome, I was using it for a year now.
But now when I want to watch a video on YouTube, I get advertisement. Can you help me with this problem?

When I uninstall Adblock Plus, No Script and OG 0.78.1 I can then turn OFF Google Instant. I then added back Adblock, tried Google and instant was still off. So then I added NoScript, tried Google and instant was still off. Then I added OG and tried Google and the INSTANT IS BACK ON. I had been logged into Google when this happened. I always had cleared everything out of FF each time I tried this. It is OG that is causing the problem with Google Instant staying on, nothing else. Also the Suggest as you type in Google Search came back on when I added OG. So Google has made it to where their website is overriding OG. This is a problem. I always liked the fact that OG kept those annoying ads off and let me customize how Google services were on my screen but Google has figured out a way to keep what they want over what ever personal changes you make to your machine. So when will this be fixed? If you need my about:config file email me. Waiting…………..philmiami

Actually we only have one person programming. If you want to volunteer to help with development then things can go faster
. As some private commitments are out of the way now we will be providing updates more regularly.

Version 0.78.2 breaks the Google Cookie and prevents us from editing our Preferences. This may be a result of “anonymizing the Google Cookie UID”.
GWT
November 19th, 2010 at 04:20
So what’s the deal with Google Instant for 0.78.2?
I still don’t see an option to disable it under the preferences menu. It’s pretty annoying having to change the settings manually all the time.
And having to save a Google cookie in my browser (in order to avoid doing the manual change all the time) pretty much defeats the purpose of OptimizeGoogle as far as I’m concerned.
Any news on this issue?
